Loved the “random acts of management” discussion — absolutely! Good way to describe what I’ve called “seagulling,” dropping in, creating chaos through poor management, and they flying off again… leaving chaos and sometimes an angry or confused team behind.
Great conversation between Adrian and Stephan about creating motivation, supporting the team, and eliminating MOTIVATION KILLERS. No (bad) surprises. Transparency and trust. Thinking about what the team needs to work effectively (and joyfully). Supporting your team by investing in them, in their tools, prioritizing what creates joy in work. That kind of joy creates investment, ownership, it’s a win for everyone including the employer.
Watch the video to learn more about Stephan’s Developer Motivation model. Great stuff. 😁
Also liked the take on AI + what it means for developers (I had a similar take, maybe a little more cautious → https://bit.ly/4fs6DFA). I don’t really believe today’s AI will result in fewer programmers. It’s a tool, potentially a useful one, potentially a harmful one. I haven’t yet seen an AI tool that actually replaced a programmer without negative overall consequences for the business. All the statistical projections I’ve seen point to increasing budgets and increasing employment numbers over the coming decade. (Doesn’t mean you can slack and not learn new tools — but is there any industry where you can do that?).
