Effective seniors elevate their team, not their code.

Advice for aspiring seniors

Hello Fellows,

I hope you're all doing well! I want to take a moment to talk about something important as we move up in our careers—seniority and leadership. It's easy to think that being a senior means being the best coder or taking on all the technical challenges yourself. But the game changes as you step into roles like principal engineer, engineering manager, or CTO.

A fundamental senior role is not just about solving complex problems or knowing every detail of the latest tech. It's about stepping back and focusing on how to make things simpler for everyone. Your goal should be to empower your team to work more efficiently and effectively. This means prioritizing simplicity and accessibility over showing off technical prowess.

Takeaway: True leadership is not about writing more code; it's about creating an environment where your team can thrive and succeed. Simplify processes, focus on efficiency, and always think about how you can enable others.

Remember, your role as a leader is to guide, mentor, and ensure the whole team is moving forward together. So, let's aim to make things better, simpler, and more accessible for everyone.
